UCEC visit to Kingsford Community School

On Tuesday 30th November, UCEC was warmly invited to visit Kingsford Community School, a specialist language and secondary school in Beckton in the London Borough of Newham.

Kingsford Community School was one of the first schools in the UK to introduce Mandarin lessons in 2001. It was also the first Confucius Classroom in the UK in 2007, establishing a centre for learning Mandarin and Chinese culture in London and the South-East.

As a specialist language school, and winner of the Best Confucian Classroom in the World (2012), Kingsford is truly dedicated in its mission to nurture Global Citizens. Kingsford students and teachers maintain close friendships with Peking University Affiliated Middle School in China; holding yearly exchange programmes and working on collaborative projects online even during the COVID pandemic.

It was a great learning experience for the UCEC team to see great school leadership and real international partnership in action.

Kingsford Community School’s leadership and management has been classed as “Outstanding” by Ofsted, and is headed by Joan Deslandes OBE.
