At the end of June 2025, UCEC had the honour of hosting a senior education delegation from the Education Department of Henan Province for a focused visit to the UK, aimed at deepening institutional dialogue and exploring future avenues for academic collaboration. The delegation included the Deputy Director-General of the Education Department of Henan Province, the Section Chief of its International Office, the Deputy Director of the International Office at Zhengzhou University, and the Deputy Dean of the International School at Luoyang Polytechnic — a group representing a broad cross-section of higher education leadership in the region.

Although brief, the visit was carefully structured to provide insight into how UK institutions engage in international cooperation and programme delivery. A central meeting took place at the University of Oxford, where a range of academic initiatives developed by UCEC over the past year have taken place. Discussions highlighted how collaborative programme design can support meaningful educational exchange, balancing institutional priorities with the needs of international participants.

The delegation also met with senior leadership at the UCL Institute of Education, including the Dean and Vice Dean, for conversations centred on educational development, international engagement, and the evolving landscape of global higher education. These exchanges reinforced the shared commitment of both UK and Chinese institutions to fostering dialogue that informs policy, pedagogy, and institutional strategy.

In London, Queen Mary University hosted the delegation for a presentation and gala dinner, offering further opportunity to discuss international cooperation within a collegiate setting. The event provided a forum for academic leaders to share perspectives on partnership models and student engagement, contributing to a broader understanding of how UK universities position themselves within the global education landscape.

UCEC also convened a private dinner at the Oxford & Cambridge Club, bringing together invited education leaders and distinguished guests to consider the future of Henan–UK collaboration. Conversations reflected ongoing interest in the theme of exporting education (a subject previously explored during UCEC’s House of Commons forum) and examined how sustainable partnerships can support both institutional growth and cultural exchange.

Throughout the visit, discussions underscored the importance of mutual understanding and responsiveness in international engagement. Delegates expressed appreciation for the way UCEC has represented the perspectives and priorities of the Chinese education sector while facilitating meaningful cooperation with UK partners. The exchange reaffirmed the value of dialogue grounded in professional respect, shared objectives, and long-term vision.

As UCEC continues to develop its cross-border initiatives, the visit serves as an encouraging reminder of the role educational collaboration plays in strengthening global ties. The organisation remains committed to creating platforms where institutions can exchange ideas, build trust, and advance programmes that benefit educators and learners alike.
